The Guardian Center's Specialized Care Unit
Dignity, Joy In Living Individuality
Living with Alzheimer's Disease or a related disorder is challenging for the individual as well as his or her family.
Our Specialized Care Unit exists to help those with memory loss find fulfillment in everyday living.
Our Therapeutic Approach and Creative Programming are what sets us apart.
Everyone Is An Individual
Our Therapeutic Approach is based on a simple philosophy: respect for everyone's uniqueness. Here residents engage in leisure pursuits from their past with compassionate caregivers. Whether gardening, painting or doing some familiar household chores, our residents retain their dignity, joy in living and individuality.
Central to the success of this approach is a thorough assessment prior to admission. Our discussions with the community caregivers ensure that daily routine will continue.
Familiarity is an emotional anchor throughout the disease process.
A Caring Community
A large part of what makes the Specialized Care Unit such a comfortable home is our staff. Under an experienced Program Director and Nurse Manager, staff are carefully screened for exemplary credentials and a demonstration of sensitivity to individuals with memory loss.
All staff are trained beyond the recommendations of the Alzheimer's Association of Eastern Massachusetts.
Working at the Specialized Care Unit takes commitment. Our families and staff form strong bonds through many programs designed to establish a trusting relationship.
Our Therapeutic Approach and Creative Programming provide a home-like atmosphere for both our residents and our families.
Residents enjoy cooking activities, interaction with others, participating in activities programs, individual attention and visits with volunteers, friends, and family members.
Partners In Caring
Residents, families and friends are a part of the fabric of our Specialized Care Unit. All are welcome to visit at any time and often participate in our special events and gatherings.
Our staff also provide a wide range of family services, both with individuals and as a group, such as Council and Support meetings.
Our families are looked upon as a vital link between the past and the present. A link that is necessary in order for us to give our residents quality of life and cherished moments.
Families are our "Partners in Caring".
